He needs to apologise for this
Lib Dem Remoaner-in-chief Vince Cable has warned of Brexit martyrs and jihadis sabotaging Britain’s future for younger generations.
Given the recent spate of terror attacks in Britain, likening Brexiteers to militant Islamist extremists is an appalling thing to do.
Westmonster wonders how many Brexiteers lost loved ones in the Manchester terror attack and how they must feel at being compared to ‘martyrs’ or ‘jihadis’.
Cable thinks most people who voted for Brexit now accept the economy will nosedive, but wear that inevitable suffering as a badge of offer – he clearly hasn’t been reading Westmonster, we’ve been championing positive economic stories for months.
He said: “To describe such masochism as ‘martyrdom’ is dangerous. We haven’t yet heard about ‘Brexit jihadis’ but there is an undercurrent of violence in the language which is troubling.
“The martyrdom of the elderly comes cheap since few have jobs to lose. The old have comprehensively shafted the young.”
His comments didn’t go down well on Twitter, with people wondering whether Cable now views any Brexiteer with the same contempt most people would have for a murderous jihadi.
It was also interesting to see how the Europhile Guardian and BBC chose to report Cable’s comments – it looks like they’ve done everything they can to bury his jihadi reference…
